Timor-Leste

Neighbour Indonesia is the most important external partner for Timor-Leste, well ahead of the next-most influential power, Australia. Indonesia leads in terms of cultural influence (reflecting people exchanges and Indonesian-language media flows) as well as economic influence: Indonesia is the top trading partner and top investor in Timor-Leste. Australia, China, and Indonesia are the leading sources of diplomatic influence, while the United States and Australia are the leading defence cooperation partners, in line with the norm elsewhere in Southeast Asia. A small country, Timor-Leste does not project influence elsewhere in Southeast Asia.
